On February 14, 1949 the Lismore American Legion re-chartered as the American Legion Schaap-Galagan Post 636 with 48 charter members. This core group of committed members from the local community had established a standard of service that is present to this day. The united efforts of Post 636, the Auxiliary and a group expressing their desire to serve the local community drew a strong response to the membership drive. The result was an inaugural membership of 108 and chartered on April 10, 2010.
